Its Wednesday 30th August, and we've had the Eco Warriors camped half a mile up the road for the last week! The village where I live is virtually on the backdoor step of Drax Power Station, the largest coal burning power station in Europe. It and the other two stations that make up Yorkshire's 'Megawatt Valley' (Eggborough and Ferrybridge) have been targeted by the Camp For Climate Change. These people are trying to promote cleaner energy use and are against the emmission of C02 into the atmosphere. Well, we all want a greener world don't we? But these people are not going to succeed with their camp and their protest. They are apparently intending to enter Drax tonight at midnight and turn off the power for 24 hours. But as the village has also been playing host to half the police force of North Yorkshire for the last week as well, all watching closely, I can't see this happening. These hippy type protests may have worked in the '60's but the world has moved on since then. At the end of the day, this will change nothing. In fact its probably increased global warming over the village with the number of police vans present alone! (By the way, the subject line is a quote from an old Doctor Who story, for those unfamiliar with the series!)
